One of the missions of the Dentistry For Every Village Foundation is to help dental students in the Philippines. Helping upgrade their school facilities and/or awarding scholarships accomplish this mission. On January 31, 2017, a boxful of journals was shipped to the University of the Visayas Gullas College of Dentistry at Mandaue City, Cebu and was received three months later. Another box was sent again on June 22, 2017.
The Foundation continuously collects books and journals from many of the friends and colleagues of Dr Ed de la Vega, the Foundation President. Dr. de la Vega’s support for the Gullas College of Dentistry dates back to 2008 when he met, in one his frequent trips to Cebu, the then Dean of the newly established College, Dr. Jelven Seno.
At the request of Dean Seno, Dr. de la Vega started supporting the college by providing books and dental journals to add to the resources of the college library. The support continued on a regular basis. When Dr Seno immigrated to Canada three years ago, Dr. de la Vega continued his contact with the college through the present dean, Dr. Nancy Lagumbay Lauron.
Most of the journals recently sent to the college were donated by Dr. Victor Rosales of Covina, CA. Also contributing were Dr. Teresita Pabalanv of Norwalk and Dr. Maritoni Olaer of Los Angeles.
The Dentistry for Every Village Foundation, Inc., raises funds by seeking grants and donations to build dental clinics. These clinics are donated to health care institutions that have the resources to house the facility, experiences and expertise to run them efficiently, and whose management is supportive of the cause.
